Beginnings of Radio 1
Radio 1 has around 42 million listeners. And the BBC was the only station around until March 28th 1960 when radio Caroline situated on a boat was set the first song it played was by the Rolling Stones.
Producers
Will Kinder is the producer at Radio 1, Andy Parfitt is the controller and James Wood does marketing and there main goal is to keep in touch with the young people(15-24) who are listing, and making sure that Radio 1 is up to date with there interests
DJs
The DJs for Radio1 are mostly regional artists coming from all over the UK i.e. Scotland, England and Ireland this is because Radio 1 is broadcasting to the whole of the UK and not just London. An go out into the cities at least once a month.
If I were to pick a job of preference at Radio 1 I would like to be a DJ as it looks to be the most enjoyable and is a good way to become famous across the U.K for doing little work.
Playlists
The during the day the playlists at Radio 1 are split into three categories A,B,C category A is songs that have the highest number of plays in a week category B has the second highest and category C has few plays in a week around five. It is the job of Sarita Jagpaly to listen to small upcoming bands to see if they are suited to Radio 1’s daytime audience.
Reporters
The reporters main priority is Newsbeat the main bulletin is at 12.45 and is read buy Georgina Bowman. It is the job of reporters such as Andy Brown to go out into the streets across the U.K and find out what affects the lives and the opinions of Radio 1’s target audience.
Publicity
The publicists at Radio 1’s job get the target audience of Radio 1 to know about and get involved in the national and international events such was the big weekend in Ibiza.
